One of Fast Company’s Most Creative People in Business

I was both thrilled and humbled to see that Fast Company named me one of the Most Creative People in Business. Throughout my career I have had the benefit of working with some of the most amazing minds, whether that was in teaching me to think like a criminal, raising venture capital, or creating a product that protects billions of people online. And to see that I am being recognized with luminaries like Ben Horowitz and the founder of Hip Hop Public Health is incredible.

This is just one of the indications that what Silver Tail is doing is amazing. We have taken protecting people on the Internet to a new level. Looking at attacks on websites through behavior analytics is a pivot on the traditional mechanism for protecting online property and having that recognized is awesome. Getting awards like this is definitely an honor, but knowing that billions of people are protected every day because of the product the Silver Tail team has created is priceless.

As the winner of the inaugural Merchant Risk Council (MRC) Emerging Technology Award, MRC will be hosting a live webinar on Thursday, June 9, 2011 to demonstrate Silver Tail Systems’ unique capability of using behavior analytics of web sessions to detect transactional and pre-transactional fraud events.

Transactional fraud detection solutions are powerful, but they have no understanding of the context of the web session. By tracking every click on a website, we are able to identify transactional fraud like man-in-the-middle attacks and also pre-transactional attacks like scraping of customer email addresses, competitors scraping pricing information, password guessing, etc.  This gives e-commerce companies (and financial services organizations, government agencies and others) an overarching view of the fraud and abuse on their websites.

Silver Tail Wins the MRC Emerging Technology Awards!

Yesterday was certainly exciting for our team at Silver Tail! I attended the 2011 Merchant Risk Council (MRC) Annual e-Commerce Payments & Risk Conference in Las Vegas, where Silver Tail Systems was honored as the organization’s first ever winner of the Emerging Technology Award.

The MRC is a merchant-led trade association focused on global risk and security for the e-Commerce industry. The organization leads industry networking, education, benchmarking and advocacy programs to help make e-Commerce more efficient, safe and profitable, and we are thrilled to be honored by this esteemed group of security professionals. The finalist judges included representatives from leading brands such as BestBuy.com, eBay, Go Daddy, HP, Microsoft, NCsoft, Overstock.com, Tiffany & Co., T-Mobile, Tobi.com, Urban Outfitters, among others.

This is award is particularly exciting, as it recognizes our commitment to detecting and preventing fraud and abuse to some of the world’s leading websites. Additionally, as I mentioned earlier this month, e-Commerce is a green field for cybercriminals and it is essential that groups like the MRC continue to thrive so that we can continue to exchange information, discuss prevention and mitigation methods and ultimately work to improve e-Commerce security. As a part of this group, we too are working toward this common goal and are continuing to build on our solutions to better protect our customers and their online businesses.

Leading anti-fraud expert and company co-founder, Laura Mather, presented the Silver Tail Forensics product on stage at the conference. She highlighted a Man-in-the-Browser example, showcasing Silver Tail’s unique capability as the only commercial technology for online sites to detect this emerging threat and protect against business logic abuse.

Silver Tail was awarded, Best of Show, voted on by the 300+ attendees at the conference, made of up mostly of financial services firms. The selection was made based on the audience interest in the solution, the compelling need in the financial services market and the presentation given at the conference. Silver Tail was selected as the winner over 57 companies participating in the conference.

I may be guilty of blogging too fast earlier, as not only was Silver Tail selected to present on stage at the FinovateStartup09 conference in San Francisco today, but by the end of the day, Silver Tail had won the Best of Show Award! The award was voted on by the 300+ attendees at the conference, made of up mostly of financial services firms. The selection was made based on the audience interest in the solution, the compelling need in the financial services market and the presentation given at the conference. Silver Tail was selected as the winner over 57 companies participating in the conference.
